The program fosters commitment to service by providing meaningful opportunities for students to support the work of local agencies and institutions addressing social and educational challenges.īSC members are expected to develop interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and other career-related skills. The BSC supports students in applying their knowledge and skills in organizational and community settings. They learned that the program offers additional human resources and the opportunity to inject new energy, enthusiasm, and perspectives into the organizations’ work.įWS Community Service is integrated with the Barry Service Corps (BSC), a civic engagement program of the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI). Representatives of local nonprofit organizations and schools came to campus to participate in FWS Community Service orientation and training as the university gets ready for the 2023–2024 academic year. Barry employees and students are invited to “uphold the sacredness of Earth” by supporting a community-based service project-slated for April 20-that contributes to environmental health. Sustainability Saturday is an annual day of service in April. The day of service is set for January 20. Day of Service at Barry is a special opportunity for students to support the advancement of the university’s commitment to social justice through collaborative service in disadvantaged communities. Food Security Day is the second Saturday of October. The first is International Coastal Cleanup Day and the last is Sustainability Saturday. Five major days of service are on the community engagement calendar. ![]()
